Build A Basketball Team Starter Build for New Players
Your first completed five-man squad — codes, quests, role targets, and minimum rerolls in Early Beta.
Your first build in Build A Basketball Team should be simple: five starters, five correct natural positions, one completed squad. Bloxive Studios designed Early Beta around that milestone — quests pay out when you finish lineups, team OVR displays honestly only when chemistry applies to a full five, and codes like tuff, thx, and Update on Codes give you enough rerolls and refreshes to recover from bad luck if you spend them on the right slots.
This starter build is not a 100 OVR chase template. It is the on-ramp. Follow it on session one, then graduate to Chemistry Builds and Best Lineups when your team rating clears the high 80s. Read Getting Started first if you have not opened the lobby or quest tab yet.
Return to the Build Hub for the full build index. Use Position Priority when you wonder which slot deserves the next reroll.
Starter build goals
By the end of your first serious session, you should have:
- Redeemed every active code from Codes.
- Claimed available rewards on Quests.
- A full starting five with natural positions matching PG, SG, SF, PF, and C slots.
- Team OVR in the mid-80s or higher without off-role penalties.
- A written note of your weakest slot for session two rerolls.
Anything beyond that — MVP chase, shiny screenshots, franchise themes — is optional flex that can wait until chemistry is stable.
Step 1: load resources before you roll
Never start a draft with zero consumables.
- Launch Build A Basketball Team on Roblox.
- Open the Codes button on the lobby right edge.
- Redeem
tuff, thx, andUpdateexactly as listed on Codes. - Open the quest tab and claim finished objectives per Quests.
You should enter the first draft with a visible reroll and refresh count. Those numbers are your safety net when Commons appear in critical slots.
Step 2: pick a starter build shape
The starter template uses balanced roles — no big-heavy or guard-heavy gimmicks until you understand refreshes.
| Slot | Minimum acceptable pull | Starter action |
|---|---|---|
| PG | Any correct-role guard labeled PG | Reroll if natural position is SF or C |
| SG | Any correct-role SG or scoring guard | Accept Rare after PG is legal |
| SF | Wing with SF or wing label | Do not leave empty past mid-draft |
| PF | Forward labeled PF or power forward | Accept Common only if C still empty |
| C | True center profile | Reroll guards offered at C slot |
This mirrors Positions Explained labels. When in doubt, favor correct role over higher OVR.
Step 3: draft order inside the UI
Build A Basketball Team presents offers step by step. Use this internal order even if the UI sequence differs:
- Secure PG — first correct-role PG you see is a keep unless it is an obvious duplicate you cannot use.
- Secure C — second priority; frontcourt mistakes are expensive to fix later.
- Fill SF — prevents guard logjams.
- Fill PF and SG — accept B-tier Rares if chemistry works.
- Review swaps — run one full pass using Chemistry swap tips before any reroll.
If the pool is guard-heavy after step three, consider one refresh from code rewards instead of five rerolls on the same guard types.
Step 4: when to reroll on a starter build
Starter reroll rules are conservative:
- Always reroll off-role offers at PG and C.
- One reroll maximum per session at SG or PF if the card is Common and wrong subtype.
- Do not reroll a correct-role Rare just because chat wants Legendary hype.
- Refresh only when more than two slots are stuck with off-role Commons after swaps.
Reroll and refresh definitions are covered in How to Play. Starter builds should leave you with at least a few rerolls banked for session two unless you hit repeated PG disasters.
Step 5: chemistry check before you finish
Before you lock the squad:
- Every starter natural position text matches their court slot.
- Swapping any pair does not raise team OVR further.
- MVP or shiny pulls are inserted only if step one passes — see Shiny and MVP Tier Guide for chase discipline.
If team OVR drops when you add a higher number card, revert and read Chemistry Builds — you likely have an off-role flex attempt.
Step 6: after your first completed build
Claim any quest that triggers on squad completion. Compare your five to Player Rarities tiers — mark the lowest rarity correct-role slot as tomorrow’s reroll target.

Common starter build mistakes
Chasing shiny before PG is legal — wastes rerolls from Codes on flex that does not start.
Refreshing because SG is Common when C is still a guard — fixes the wrong problem; use Position Priority.
Skipping quests — leaves rerolls on the table; always open Quests pre-draft.
Copying Discord lineups name-for-name — pools differ; copy roles instead from this starter template.
Starter build FAQ mindset
Early Beta will change numeric OVR floors. The starter build survives because it teaches role completion and chemistry discipline, the same skills How to Reach 100 OVR assumes you already learned.
Finish one honest starter squad before you call your account unlucky. Most beta players who redeem codes, claim quests, and respect PG/C priority clear a usable five within the first hour.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What should my first lineup look like in Build A Basketball Team?
Five starters with PG, SG, SF, PF, and C filled by correct natural positions. Aim for mid-80s team OVR or higher using code rerolls on PG and C before you chase Legendary pulls.
How many rerolls should I use on a starter build?
Spend freely on off-role PG and C offers, one reroll max on other slots if needed, and refresh only when multiple slots are stuck with wrong-role Commons after swaps.
Should I redeem codes before my first draft?
Yes. Redeem tuff, thx, and Update from the Codes hub and claim quest rewards before rolling so you have rerolls and refreshes for critical slots.
When do I move from starter build to best lineups?
When you have a chemistry-clean five above the high 80s and understand swaps. Then open Chemistry Builds and Best Lineups for 95+ templates.
