Build A Basketball Team Player Rarity Tier List
S–F rankings for card rarity bands — what to keep, reroll, or refresh during Early Beta meta shifts.
Every card you roll in Build A Basketball Team carries a rarity band that signals baseline OVR, pull frequency, and how aggressively you should spend rerolls to upgrade the slot. Bloxive Studios has not published a permanent rarity chart for Early Beta, but community collectors already sort pulls into a familiar ladder: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, plus chase layers MVP and shiny variants on top. This page maps those bands to S–F tiers so you can make keep-or-reroll calls in seconds instead of debating every offer in chat.
Treat this as a living framework. Beta patches may rename tiers, recolor borders, or rebalance drop rates. The tier logic stays the same: higher rarity usually means higher ceiling, but chemistry and natural position still decide whether that ceiling reaches your team OVR number. Read Chemistry before you reroll a Rare card that fits perfectly while a Legendary pull sits off-role in your bench thoughts.

S-tier: Legendary, MVP, and shiny in correct roles
S-tier pulls are the cards you build sessions around. In current beta conversations, that usually means:
- Legendary base cards with strong OVR floors at a position you still need.
- MVP editions that bump stats while keeping a legal natural position.
- Shiny variants that combine rarity flash with correct slot placement on insertion.
An S-tier card is not automatic if it lands off-position. A shiny Legendary point guard is still S-tier inventory, but it drops to a lower effective tier until you can slot it at PG without breaking Chemistry Builds. Never reroll an S-tier offer just because the name is unfamiliar — check the position tag first.
A-tier: Epic and high Rare staples
A-tier cards are daily drivers for 90+ OVR squads. Epic rarity pulls typically sit here when they match an open starter slot. High-end Rare cards that outscore your incumbent after chemistry also qualify, especially at positions where Legendary drops are scarce early in beta.
Keep A-tier offers when:
- Team OVR rises on insertion with correct placement.
- You are still climbing toward How to Reach 100 OVR and the card closes a visible gap.
- The draft pool is thin and a reroll might return Common filler.
Spend a single reroll on A-tier borderline pulls only when a lower slot still holds a chemistry mismatch you cannot swap away.
B-tier: playable Rare and low Epic filler
B-tier cards finish squads during your first hours but get replaced once codes and quests fund deeper reroll sessions. Most Rare pulls land here unless they fix a critical missing role. Low Epic cards with awkward positions — combo guards listed as SG when you need a PG — also sit in B-tier until a swap opens.
Use B-tier cards to complete a five-man lineup, claim Quests milestones, and bank coins. Then target upgrades using Position Priority so rerolls go to the weakest legal slot, not random vanity.
C-tier: Common and mismatched Rares
C-tier offers are stopgaps or reroll fodder. Common cards almost always land here unless you have an empty slot and zero rerolls left. A Rare card forced off-role is functionally C-tier even if the OVR number looks respectable in isolation.
Reroll C-tier offers when the slot matters for team OVR — typically your starting PG, primary wing, or anchor center. Refresh instead of rerolling five times when the whole pool looks Common-heavy; Codes like Update supply refreshes exactly for that scenario.
D-tier and F-tier: dead pulls and trap offers
D-tier pulls are duplicates at positions you already chemistry-maximized, or low OVR Commons when your bench is full. F-tier is reserved for active traps: shiny or MVP hype cards that lower team OVR when inserted because of off-role placement, or offers that break a swap chain you spent three drafts building.
Do not let chat hype override the team OVR readout. If insertion drops your rating, the pull is F-tier for that lineup regardless of border color. Store it for collection flex or wait for a Best Lineups rework that frees the correct slot.
Rarity versus variant: MVP and shiny overlays
Base rarity sets the floor. MVP and shiny overlays add ceiling and flex value but do not bypass chemistry. Community tier lists often double-count variants as auto S-tier; that is misleading during beta.
Use this overlay rule:
- Tier the base card by rarity band.
- Move up one letter if MVP or shiny AND natural position matches a starter need.
- Move down one letter if the variant tempts you to break a chemistry link.
Full chase strategy lives on Shiny and MVP Tier Guide. Inventory definitions live on Card Rarities.
Reroll and refresh budget by tier
Match consumables to tier outcomes:
| Your offer tier | Typical action |
|---|---|
| S-tier, correct role | Keep immediately |
| A-tier, upgrade slot | Keep; reroll only if incumbent is C-tier or worse |
| B-tier, weak slot | One reroll if codes/quests allow |
| C-tier, key position | Reroll until A-tier or resources run out |
| D/F-tier | Reroll or refresh pool |
Redeem tuff, thx, and Update from Codes before marathon reroll nights. Pair spending with Starter Build role targets so you are not rerolling wing depth when your center is still Common-tier.
Beta disclaimer: names may change
Bloxive Studios can rename rarity labels or add new bands mid-beta. If patch notes mention economy changes, revisit this page and Updates. Until then, the Common → Rare → Epic → Legendary → MVP/shiny mental model matches what collectors report in live servers and aligns with standard card-collect progression loops.
When official documentation arrives, we will adjust tier examples but keep the same decision flow: read rarity, read natural position, read team OVR delta, then spend rerolls. That order survives every balance pass.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What rarity tiers exist in Build A Basketball Team?
Community frameworks use Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary base bands, plus MVP editions and shiny variants. Bloxive may rename these during Early Beta, but the keep-or-reroll logic stays the same.
Is a Legendary card always S-tier?
Not if it is off-position or duplicates a chemistry-maxed slot. Legendary pulls in the correct natural role are S-tier candidates; misplaced Legendary cards can perform like C-tier for team OVR.
Should I reroll Epic and Rare cards?
Reroll when the card is C-tier or worse for a key slot, or when team OVR does not improve on insertion. Keep A-tier Epics and high Rares that fix chemistry gaps before spending rerolls.
How do MVP and shiny variants affect rarity tiers?
Variants raise ceiling but still require correct natural position. Treat them as one tier higher only when they legally start in your lineup; otherwise they are collection pieces until a build opens the right slot.
