Build A Basketball Team Controls and Lobby UI
Every lobby button explained — codes on the right, quests, rolls, rerolls, refreshes, and chemistry swaps before you waste a resource.
Build A Basketball Team keeps most of its interaction inside the Roblox lobby and draft screens. Bloxive Studios designed the Early Beta client around card rolling, lineup placement, and resource spending — not a complex control scheme like a sports sim. Still, new players lose rerolls because they cannot find the Codes button, miss the quest tab, or tap refresh when they meant reroll. This guide maps every major UI control so your first sessions match the flow in Getting Started and How to Play.
There is no in-game settings manual and no official Trello documenting button moves between patches. If a menu shifts after an update, check Updates and re-read this page once we confirm the new layout.
Lobby layout overview
When the experience finishes loading, you land in the lobby — the hub between squad drafts. Typical elements include:
- A primary action to start or continue a team build.
- The Codes button on the right side of the screen.
- Access to the quest tab referenced in the Roblox game description.
- Inventory counters for rerolls and refreshes earned from codes and quests.
- Navigation back to an in-progress roster if you left mid-draft.
Scan the full screen once before rolling. Players who jump straight into card selection often forget to redeem tuff, thx, and Update from Codes and play the entire first session with zero bonus rerolls.
Codes button — right side of the lobby
Promo code redemption lives behind the Codes button positioned on the right edge of the lobby UI. This placement is consistent across desktop and mobile layouts in July 2026 testing, though button art may change in future builds.
Redemption flow:
- Stand in the lobby after the world loads completely.
- Tap Codes on the right side of the screen.
- Type the promo string exactly — codes are case-sensitive (
Updaterequires a capital U). - Press Redeem and confirm reroll and refresh counters increase.
- Close the panel and verify inventory before starting a draft.
If redemption fails, read How to Redeem Codes before assuming a typo. Active strings as of July 2026 include tuff (15 rerolls, 10 refreshes), thx (20 rerolls, 10 refreshes), and Update (10 rerolls, 15 refreshes).
Quest tab controls
The Roblox description tells players to check the quest tab for rewards. Quests track milestones — first squad completion, OVR targets, login streaks, and similar objectives — and pay rerolls, refreshes, coins, or other progression currency when you claim them.
Quest workflow:
- Open the quest tab from the lobby or main menu area (exact icon varies by patch but is labeled in-game).
- Review completed objectives with a claim indicator.
- Tap claim on every finished quest before spending rerolls on a new draft.
- Note active requirements so your next squad run advances the right milestone.
Quest income stacks with code redemptions. Full reward breakdowns live on Quests. Claiming quests first is the safest control habit in Early Beta because it costs nothing and can double your starting reroll budget.
Starting a draft — roll actions
When you begin a new team build, the game walks you through card rolls — selecting players from pools tied to teams, years, or eras depending on the current draft step. Core actions during rolling include:
- Accept — Add the offered card to your roster or slot it into the lineup step.
- Reroll — Replace the current card offer with a new random player while staying in the same draft context.
- Refresh — Reset the broader selection pool (teams, years, or player groups) so the next offers come from a different slice of the database.
These two consumables behave differently. A reroll fixes one bad offer; a refresh fixes a whole pool that feels stale. Using refresh when you only needed reroll is one of the most expensive control mistakes in the game. How to Play explains timing; the short rule is reroll single weak slots, refresh only when the entire pool cannot feed the position you still need.
Lineup placement and swap controls
After you pull cards, you assign starters to court slots — point guard, shooting guard, wing, forward, center, or equivalent labels in the UI. Each card displays a natural position. Chemistry bonuses apply when that label matches the slot you choose.
Swap controls typically let you:
- Move a card into an empty starter slot.
- Exchange two starters between slots to fix off-role placement.
- Compare team OVR before confirming a change.
Before you reroll away a decent pull, try in-lineup swaps. Moving a wing from point guard to small forward and sliding your true point guard into the vacated slot often raises team OVR without spending any resource. Chemistry documents swap patterns that matter more than raw card OVR.
Never force a shiny or MVP variant into the wrong slot just because the accept button is highlighted — verify natural position first, then confirm.
Reroll versus refresh — control discipline
Both buttons sit near the draft UI during rolling. Early Beta players confuse them because both “change what you see next.”
| Action | What it changes | When to press |
|---|---|---|
| Reroll | Current card offer only | Wrong position for this slot, low tier at a key role |
| Refresh | Entire team/year/player pool | Pool is duplicate-heavy or cannot feed your target position |
Stop chaining rerolls if two attempts fail to beat your incumbent at the same natural position. Stop refreshing if you have not finished chemistry swaps on your current roster — a new pool does not fix mis-slotted starters already on your bench.
Code bundles from Codes feed both actions: thx and tuff are reroll-heavy; Update is refresh-heavy. Match your button habits to the codes you redeemed.
Mobile UI tips
Roblox mobile layouts compress the lobby but keep the same functional areas:
- Codes button — Still on the right side; use landscape if your device hides edge buttons in portrait.
- Text entry — Paste codes carefully; mobile autocorrect can break case-sensitive strings like
Update. - Tap targets — Reroll and refresh sit close together on small screens; read the label before confirming.
- Quest tab — Open and claim before switching apps; backgrounding Roblox mid-draft can reset unsaved draft state depending on server behavior.
- Swaps — Drag or tap-to-swap depending on device; always recheck team OVR after moving cards.
If a button is off-screen, pinch-zoom is not supported in Roblox — rotate to landscape or adjust Roblox mobile UI scale in the Roblox app settings.
Controls after you finish a squad
Completion screens may offer rewards, quest progress, or a path to start another run. Before you immediately refresh for a vanity chase:
- Claim any quest completions triggered by finishing.
- Note your final team OVR and which slot was weakest.
- Compare against Tier List targets for that role.
- Decide whether the next session needs rerolls (slot upgrade) or a refresh (pool rebuild).
How to Reach 100 OVR assumes you understand these controls so resource spending aligns with long-term goals instead of impulse rerolls.
When controls change in patches
Early Beta UI can move between builds — a Codes button shift, quest tab rename, or draft panel resize. After every patch:
- Re-test code redemption from the lobby.
- Open the quest tab and read any new objective text.
- Run one low-stakes draft to confirm reroll and refresh still behave as expected.
We update this guide when Updates confirms layout changes. Until then, treat the right-side Codes button and case-sensitive redemption as stable facts verified in July 2026.
Mastering lobby controls is the cheapest skill in Build A Basketball Team. Codes on the right, quests claimed first, rerolls for single slots, refreshes for dead pools, swaps before spending — that sequence saves more OVR than any lucky pull.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where is the Codes button in Build A Basketball Team?
The Codes button is on the right side of the lobby screen. Tap it, enter a working code exactly as published (case-sensitive), and press Redeem to receive rerolls and refreshes.
What is the difference between reroll and refresh controls?
Reroll replaces the current card offer at the same draft step. Refresh resets the broader team, year, or player selection pool. Use reroll for one bad slot and refresh when the whole pool cannot help your lineup.
How do I swap players for better chemistry?
Use lineup swap controls to exchange starters between court slots until each card's natural position matches its assigned role. Recheck team OVR after every swap before spending rerolls.
Does the lobby layout differ on mobile Roblox?
Functions are the same — Codes on the right, quest tab accessible from the lobby, reroll and refresh during drafts — but use landscape if edge buttons are cramped and watch autocorrect on case-sensitive codes.
